What are Service Levels?
Service Levels are categories of services or products that you create and label. The items within a Service Level have some common traits. You can base Service Levels on the delivery speed, such as Express, Standard, and Next Day Delivery, but they can also apply to various other situations, like the Receiver Country or the type of Goods, among others.
For instance, by setting up a Service Level for each shipping country, you can define the valid carrier products and conditions for each one. Your warehouse team simply has to select the Service Level for the Receiver's country, and the right products and services will be chosen automatically.
Service Levels are useful if you have multiple products that can be used for the same destination.
Important note: Service Levels are only applied if your entry product is included in one of your Service Levels. The service level name must be a minimum of 3 characters.
Creating a Service Level
A Service Level is created inside a Shipping Rules file, so you must start by creating a new file or editing an existing file. For a tutorial on how to create a new file, click here.
- Go to Drafts, click the three-dot menu next to the file you want to work with, and choose Edit.
- Go to the Service Levels tab.
- Click the New button and enter a name for the new Service Level.
- Select the products that you want in your Service Level and click Create.
- Click the arrow to the left of the name to start defining conditions.
- Click Conditions and select a group from the Group drop-down list. When you select a group, a new drop-down list will appear. Select a Field from this list.
- Fill in the additional fields/drop-down lists that appear after the field selection. These fields or drop-down lists vary according to the group and the field that you selected.
- You can add more Conditions by clicking the plus sign. This will create an additional Conditions line.
- In the Allocation section, you have the option to set up allocation rules (see the explanation for each type below). These can be used to select a single carrier product if there are more valid alternatives when all other rules/conditions have been met.
- When done with all settings, click the Save button located in the Service Levels section.
Note: If you have multiple carrier products and more than one proves valid when Shipping Rules are running, it will always choose the first valid product from the top of the list. You can change the order of products by clicking the three-line icon and dragging and dropping the product to a new position.
Allocation types
These are the types of allocation rules that can be defined under Service Levels:
Preselected - If the selected product is valid, then it will always be used.
Order - If additional valid products are found, the first one in the Service Level's product list will be used.
Lowest Price - Price is determined by Price Calculation, using the lowest-priced product for this allocation type.
Highest Rank - The highest-ranked product will be selected based on your entry in the Rank field.
User selected - This displays a list of valid products for selection in the user interface (Production in Ship On-premises or New in Ship Cloud).
Min count for product - The first X shipments daily will use this product. Setting the value to 100 means this product will be used 100 times before others can be chosen.
Distribution - Use a mix of listed products for a specific scope and distribute shipments with the same submit date based on a specified share. Shares do not need to total 100. The distribution rule eliminates invalid products, calculates shares for valid ones, and selects the product with the largest difference between intended and actual shares. The scope can be "Installation," "Location," or "Actor" for on-premises solutions, but only "Actor" is available for hosted solutions.
Fastest - Select the product with the earliest delivery. Ensure ETA configuration is set; products without it will be excluded.
Max count - This setting specifies the maximum number of shipments permitted with a particular carrier according to the schedule you have established. The additional settings will become available when the allocation rule is selected.
