Shipping Rules is a feature in nShift Ship that you can use to automate your company's shipping policy and make sure that you always pick the best delivery method for your shipments.
Your shipping rules are defined directly in nShift Ship and will automate which carriers and products to use, making it much easier for your warehouse staff. You can combine your rules as it suits your business best. The rules can be based on many different shipment attributes, and range from simple rules like "if ship to destination X, always use carrier Z" to more complex rules like "if ship to country X and weight above Z and service A is selected, then use product B".
How Shipping Rules work
Shipping Rules are defined in an XML document. It can either be set up using our Shipping Rules User Interface or by creating a document using an XML editor.
Shipping Rules UI
The Interface tool does not require any XML skills. It allows anyone to create and edit a simple set of shipping rules. We have put together a series of tutorials to help you get started. Go to the Shipping Rules UI tutorials here.
XML editor
If you are skilled in XML, you can create the XML document yourself. This is recommended for advanced users with coding skills. Please see our comprehensive appendix that explains all the Shipping Rules nodes here.
Regardless of whether your configuration has been made using the UI or an XML editor, the XML document is uploaded to nShift Ship and will be checked every time you print (submit) a label. The rules in the document will then be used to automatically change the carrier/product to the best option before the label is printed.
Book a technical consultant
It is also possible to book one of our technical consultants to create a Shipping Rules setup for you. This is recommended if you have a large setup with many carriers and an advanced set of shipping rules. Please contact our Customer Service for more information.
