Freight Rate Calculation, also called Price Calculation, is a tool in nShift Ship (Consignor) that calculates your exact freight rates based on the agreements you have with specific carriers. Whether your price agreement is based on distance, weight, geographical zones and/or index prices, nShift Ship handles the calculation and provides you with the expected freight rate.
Some carriers offer a Freight Rate Calculation service (standard price calculation) where prices are received directly through a webservice. If your carriers do not support this and you wish to use Freight Rate Calculation, we can implement a custom solution based on the specific prices you have from your carrier.

How does Freight Rate Calculation work?
The Freight Rate Calculation tool calculates your freight rates based on your carrier agreements. When the calculation is made, a service in nShift Ship will run through your carrier agreements, and based on different parameters like weight and volume, the service will calculate the expected freight rate. You will see the calculated freight rate in the nShift Ship user interface before you book your shipment, and the calculated freight rates are stored in Portal. Freight Rate Calculation can also help you compare pre-calculated freight rates with carrier rates, and help you save money on freight. (Please note that not all carriers are able to return invoiced prices to Portal)
Ordering custom Freight Rate Calculation
A custom Freight Rate Calculation setup (also known as Custom Price Calculation or CPC) is made by uploading an XML configuration file in nShift Ship. The XML file contains all the information needed for nShift Ship to show the calculated rates.
You can order a configuration of custom Freight Rate Calculation by writing to Customer Service here. Attach a file with your prices and explain how they should be displayed. A technical consultant will then contact you and make sure we have all the information needed before we begin the implementation. It is recommended to read the guidelines below BEFORE placing an order.
Guidelines when ordering custom Freight Rate Calculation
- Price files must NOT be images like jpg, GIF, png, etc. Price files must be in a format where we can copy-paste each price, e.g. Excel or Word.
- If you deliver prices based on loading meter, the prices you will see in nShift Ship will work when using loading meter in your bookings. If you want prices based on weight, you have to send us prices based on weight, or precise instructions on how the prices should be converted, e.g. "convert 1 loading meter to 2000 kg and set up the prices in 200 kg intervals".
- We cannot include routes, destinations, goods types, etc. that are not specified in the file delivered to us. E.g you will not see prices to Germany if you only delivered prices for shipping to Sweden. Similarly, you will not see prices for half pallets if you only provided the price for a Euro pallet.
