Several different carriers have made it known that from January 2025 onwards, German legislation will dictate that for shipments above certain weight limits, special symbols will be needed on the labels. You might have been contacted about this by your carriers already. Below is an example of messages that these carriers can send you as a customer (this example was DHL) about this:
As you're using Transsmart, our carrier team will ensure that these new regulations will be processed in a timely manner so that the labels will adhere to the new legislation. When this development is completed you will be able to notice this from a post on our release notes forum here: https://helpcenter.nshift.com/hc/en-us/sections/4408493747986-Release-Notes
(please subscribe to that forum by clicking Follow/Volgen so you get automatic mail updates when our developmental teams post something)
A very important note in this process is that any change we make will be based on the actual package dimensions/weights you book towards our platform. We are aware that certain customers have a process in place in which they do not book realistic package dimensions/weights towards us, opting instead for a constant virtual weight/size parameter for instance. Dependent on the carrier(s) you utilise for shipping to Germany, your booking process might need to change to reflect the realistic values instead. Please contact your relevant carriers about this yourself to make sure you are prepared for these upcoming changes.
Additionally, it's noteworthy that our carrier team will only proactively make sure that these label changes will be in place for the carriercodes for which our platform creates the labels. This boils down to most of the manifesting carriers, as the carriercodes on which we receive the labeldata directly from the carrier's platform instead are by and large online carrier connections. We've also already contacted all of the carriers that provide us with the labels to make sure they are aware of this legislative change.
