Load validation is a feature in Scan App that enables you to validate the content in your containers. It will ease your loading process, allowing you to efficiently scan and validate the contents of a container, while easily identifying any missing items.
Important: To use load validation, you must have Containers integrated into your business workflow. Read more about containers here.
This article will explain how to set up and use load validation.
- Create a Scan App event with Container validation
- Use Container validation in Scan App
- Check a container using the Load summary
- Limitations
Create a Scan App event with Container validation
Start by creating a container validation event that you can assign to your containers.
- Log in to nShift Portal and go to Action Center.
- Choose Settings in the top menu and Scan App events in the left side menu.
- At the bottom of the list of existing events, click New.
- Name the event and select Container validation in the Advanced section. (Please note that Container validation cannot be combined with any closing events, Related info options or Details from the Advanced settings tab.)
- Click Save to create the event.
Using Container validation in Scan App
Once you have created an event that supports container validation, you can start using it by assigning it to a container.
- In Scan App, select the event that you created, supporting container validation.
- Tap the No container selected field to select a container. Choose the desired container from the list or use the search field by inputting the barcode or name manually or tapping the scanning icon to scan the barcode label. Once you have selected a container, you will be redirected to the main screen.
- You can now start the scanning process to validate if an item belongs to the container. If the scanned item belongs to the selected container, the barcode is automatically added to the list of barcodes.
- An error will be displayed if the scanned item does not belong to the selected container. If the item was added to the container after selecting the container in step 1, try the validation again in a couple of minutes.
- If the scanned item belongs to the selected container but is a container itself with missing items, you will get a message like the following:
Note about event propagation: An event sent with the container validation option turned on will be visible on the validated items and their possible children if these are shipments or packages that are visible in Portal.
Checking a container using the Load summary
The Load summary page gives you an overview of a container and how many items have been validated.
- Go to Load summary from the main menu in Scan App.
- Tap on the desired container or search for it by using the search field or scanning the barcode. You will now be sent to the Load summary page.
The Load summary page explained:
- At the top of the Load summary page, you can see the currently selected container, the total number of items to be loaded, and the number of items that have already been loaded (validated). The percentage shows the share of items that have been loaded.
- The second part of the page consists of a list of all items that have to be onboarded. Each item has one of the following colors:
- Grey: The item was not validated. If it's a container it means that none of the containing items were validated.
- Yellow: The item was partially validated. Some items were validated but some are still missing.
- Green: The item was validated or all of the containing items were successfully validated.
Icons
This icon indicates that the item is a container with the number of contained items shown under the barcode. The containing items must first be validated as a part of this container before the container itself can be validated as an item belonging to another container.
This icon indicates that the item is a shipment and might contain multiple parcels belonging to the same order. For a shipment to be fully validated, all of its packages must be validated or the shipment number itself.
This icon indicates that the item is a parcel. A parcel can only have two states: not validated (grey) or validated (green). |
Tip: You can pin the Load summary to your Scan App toolbar for quick access. Go to Settings > Preferences > Toolbar Action and select Load summary. It will now be available in the toolbar.
Limitations
- Container Validation is supported for containers up to 3 levels.
- Once validated, items will not be able to be moved on a different container.
- A parent container will not be validated as a child until all its containing items are validated. An error message will be shown when this criteria is not met: "Unable to validate {barcode}. Please go to Load summary for more details".
