We support different user roles in Portal, each with its own privileges, and this system enables each customer to create new users and administrate their level of access.
There are two types of user accounts: Customer users and Carrier users. Each customer user is further categorized into one of the three user roles: Owner, Admin and Regular. Furthermore, a customer user can also take on a Visitor role. A Carrier user can either be an Admin or a Regular user. They cannot take on the role of an Owner or a Visitor.
Account types
Customer users - customers who have an nShift Ship (Consignor) subscription and an nShift Ship solution. The customer user can have different user roles - see below.
Carrier users - account belonging to someone who works for a carrier that is integrated with nShift Ship. A carrier user has access to see all the shipments in Portal that were made using their carrier module in nShift Ship. They will never have access to specific nShift Ship installations.
User roles
Owner - the owner of an installation. An owner is always a Customer user. This user is created by a technical consultant from nShift and is granted all possible permissions within the scope of the installation. All locations and actors of the installation are available to the owner, and the owner can perform all user management tasks.
Admin - an admin user is created by the owner or another admin user, who defines which scope within the installation the admin user has access to. The scope can go from one single actor on one location to multiple actors on one or more locations for customer users. The admin has access to create new users and perform user management tasks. Admin customer users can only create other customer users, and admin carrier users can only create other carrier users.
Regular - a regular user can be created by an owner or an admin user. The regular user has access to the part of the installation set by the admin and can never have access to anything outside the scope of the admin user. The regular user does not have access to perform user management tasks and cannot create new users.
Visitor - a user that has been given read access to another company's data. The access must be approved by the owner of the other company and can be restricted to a list of locations and actors. A carrier user cannot be granted visitor access.
