We support different user roles in nShift Portal, each with its own privileges, and this system enables each customer to create new users and administrate their level of access.
There are two types of user accounts: Customer users and Carrier users. Each customer user is further categorized into one of the three user roles: Owner, Admin and Regular. Furthermore, a customer user can also take on a Visitor role. A Carrier user can either be an Admin or a Regular user. They cannot take on the role of an Owner or a Visitor.
Account types
Customer users - customers who have an nShift subscription and an nShift product solution. The customer user can have different user roles - see below.
Carrier users - an account belonging to an employee of a carrier integrated with nShift Ship. They can access all shipments made using their carrier module in the nShift Portal, but cannot access specific customer installations. They can also use the export to CSV feature to compare shipment data from different customers by importing it into Excel.
User roles
Owner - The Owner of an installation is always a Customer user. This user is set up by a technical consultant from nShift and has all the necessary permissions related to the installation and the nShift product subscription. The Owner has access to all Locations, Actors, and Member Accounts associated with the installation and can handle all user management tasks.
Admin - An Admin user is set up by the owner who decides the areas within the installation that the Admin user can access. This can range from a single actor at one location to multiple actors across one or more locations for Customer users. The Admin can create new users and handle user management tasks. Admins can only grant access to features that they can use. Additionally, Admin Customer users can only create other Customer users, while Admin Carrier users can only create other Carrier users.
Regular - A Regular user can be created by either an Owner or an Admin. The Regular user will have access to the areas of the installation that the Admin has designated, and they will not be able to access anything beyond that. Additionally, Regular users cannot manage other users or create new accounts.
Visitor - a user who has been given read access to another company's data. The access must be approved by the owner of the other company and can be restricted to a list of locations and actors. A carrier user cannot be granted visitor access.
This table shows the maximum rights of the different roles. It is always possible to limit the scope of a user's access. For instance, if a user should not have access to Shipping Rules, this can be controlled in the Usage Profile by the Owner or Admin. Access to the features in the table depends on your nShift subscription. Not all Owners have access to all the mentioned features.
